Founded in 1941, Barron’s Educational Series became known as America’s Leader in Test Preparation and Study Aids.

Over the years, Barron’s expanded into many other publishing fields, introducing extensive lines of: children’s books; pet care manuals; how-to books for artists, craftspeople, and hobbyists; cookbooks; books for coloring enthusiasts; parenting advice books; and much more.

In September 2018, Barron’s sold its test prep and study aids programs to Kaplan Test Prep and changed its name to B.E.S. Publishing. The new publishing company, B.E.S. Publishing, has more than 1,000 titles in print and remains dedicated to providing top-notch material to children and adults in the areas mentioned above.

Manuscript Submission Guidelines:

For initial consideration of your project, we STRONGLY recommend a query letter, along with your author credentials.

While we do receive submissions from many literary agencies, it is not necessary to have a literary agent in order to submit material.

Please address submissions to:

B.E.S. Publishing 250 Wireless Boulevard Hauppauge, NY 11788
Email: info@bes-publishing.com

Simultaneous submissions are welcome.

A large, self-addressed, stamped envelope, with enough postage, must be included if you want your material returned.

** Only queries are accepted by email **

Due to the large volume of unsolicited submissions received, a complete evaluation of a proposal may take 4-6 weeks. Please do not call about the status of individual submissions.

We are currently interested in children books, business and financial advice books, parenting advice books, art instruction books, sports, fashion, and crafts.

We do not publish poems, and we are not interested in books that have already been published.

Please refer to our website, bes-publishing.com, if you would like to become familiar with the kinds of books we publish. Keep in mind we are not looking for books similar to those that we have already published.

When submitting a proposal for a children's fiction book:
  • Please include an outline summary
  • You may include sample pages (Please DO NOT include the manuscript in its entirety).
  • Artwork is not necessary, but is helpful if author is also the illustrator. Please only include a sample.
  • Author's credentials must be included.
When submitting a work of adult or Juvenile Nonfiction:
  • Include a Table of Contents, along with two sample chapters.
  • A brief description of the work should be included in the cover letter, as well as an overview citing the market being targeted (e.g., children, ages 2–4; secondary school teachers, etc.)
  • Please include sample illustrations if the book is to be illustrated.
  • Author's credentials must also be included.
The Acquisitions Manager will be in contact with you if additional information or material is required in order to properly evaluate your project. Do not send additional material unless specifically requested.

Thank you for your adherence to the above guidelines.
